Benefits of following a candida diet

Candida is a disease that infects the digestive tract. A species of yeasts, its overgrowth can host infections that affect the mouth, throat, skin and genitals and can cause symptoms like itchy skin, mood swings, anxiety, irritability, headaches, exhaustion, stomach pains and frequent digestion problems. There are ways to cure the infection but it requires a bit of a lifestyle change as certain foods in your diet will have to discarded and substituted with others.

A candida cleanse is essential to ridding your body of toxins and tempering the yeast that resides in the body. To do this, however, you need to know what type you’re afflicted with. For instance, there is the candidal intertrigo which affects the skin; perleche which affects the mouth; candidal vulvoginitis which affects the vagina’s mucous membrane; and erosion interdigitalis blastomycetica which affects the webs between fingers.

Once you’ve got it diagnosed properly, you can proceed to following a candida diet along with taking medication prescribed by your doctor. The diet doesn’t involve such drastic changes but requires you to stay away from foods that contain a lot of sugar, starch and yeast. Herbal teas are known for their anti-toxin properties and are easy to make. Use herbs like ginger, lemon grass, licorice, clove and cinnamon. Their anti-fungal properties are great for a candida cleanse.

Plain yoghurt and probiotics have good bacteria that will help fight the yeast in your body by creating anti-fungal enzymes. Vegetables rich in starch should be avoided as they will only add to the yeast. Instead, eat veggies like radish, peppers, onions, spinach, summer squash, asparagus, brussel sprouts, garlic, turnip, tomatoes, cauliflower, zucchini and broccoli. Also eat foods rich in protein as they don’t contain a lot of starch. These would include chicken, fish, beef and eggs.

Choose grains that don’t contain gluten and substitute them with brown rice or wild rice, amaranth, quinoa, millet and buckwheat. Your candida diet should also include spices like cumin, oregano, rosemary, paprika, thyme, turmeric, basil and black pepper. Most of these foods are available in any market so you won’t have to hunt around for them. Aside from helping with fight the infection, a candida cleanse will also benefit your body in other ways as the foods contain properties known to fight disease and keep your body well balanced.
